Mogadishu, Somalia - The Federal Government of Somalia (FGS) has received 28 brand-new vehicles as part of the Somalia Food Systems Resilience Project (FSRP). The vehicles will be distributed to the Jubaland, Galmudug, Hirshabelle, and Southwest States to enhance agro-pastoral productivity and strengthen food security in the country.
The vehicles will enhance the capacity of FSRP's implementing ministries, such as the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Livestock, to reach remote areas and provide essential services to agro-pastoralist communities in all regions.
"These vehicles will play a crucial role in supporting the FGS's efforts to improve food security and nutrition in Somalia," said National Project Coordinator for FSRP Abdullahi Abdirahman. "They will enable the government to reach more farmers and pastoralists with essential services, such as training, extension, and veterinary care."
The SFSRP is a five-year project that aims to improve the resilience of Somalia's food systems to shocks and stresses, such as drought, floods, and conflict. The project is also working to improve the productivity of agro-pastoral systems and to strengthen the capacity of local institutions to support food security.
The vehicles are expected to make a significant contribution to the SFSRP's objectives by improving the mobility of government staff and enabling them to reach more farmers and pastoralists in remote areas.
